About Frank Sinatra

Frank Sinatra is the name of a New Jersey singer, director, producer and actor.

He has been born under the name Francis Albert Sinatra on the twelfth of December, year 1915 in Hoboken, New Jersey, USA. Being a traditional pop artist, he has also incorporated the genres of jazz and swing in his musical style. He has worked for the labels Warner Bros, Reprise, Capitol Records and Columbia Records.

During his career, he has been associated with other musical acts, such as Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald, Rat Pack, Louis Armstrong, Quincy Jones, Duke Ellington, Sammy Davis, Jr. and others.

He started his venture into the music industry in the year 1935. His career has begun with the swing genre, in an era when he was a boy and sang along the likes of Tommy Dorsey and Harry James. His success started in the beginning of the 40s period. That time meant his signing with the label Columbia Records.

His debut album has been released in the year of 1946 and was titled "The Voice of Frank Sinatra". For some years, his career hasn’t grown that much, only his first album remained. However, in the year 1953 he performed in the movie "From Here to Eternity". That performance made him receive the Best Supporting Actor award at the Academy Awards ceremony.

The year of 1953 also meant a switch from the label Columbia Records to Capitol Records. This period was a rebirth for Sinatra, who released several famous albums. Starting with "In the Wee Small Hours", his albums followed one after another. Four other albums from that period are worth mentioning: "Come Fly with Me", "Nice ‘n’ Easy", "Songs for Swingin’ Lovers" and " Only the Lonely".

In the year 1961 he departed from Capitol and started his own label, called Reprise Records. Three other albums furthered his success. The first one was "Ring-a-Ding-Ding!", followed by "Sinatra at the Sands". His last album from that period was "Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim".

Frank Sinatra started touring worldwide and even helped create the group Rat Pack. Since 1965, when he reached the age of fifty, he released hit songs "My Way", as well as "Strangers in the Night". In 1968, he worked together with Duke Ellington. The year 1980 he came back with "(Theme From) New York, New York", which was a great hit, charting on the top 40.

Sinatra also starred in movies such as "The Man with the Golden Arm", "The Manchurian Candidate" or "Pal Joey", just to name a few.
