The band took birth on the benches of the New York University, while the two members were attending The Steinhardt Music Program where they were music business students. The initial idea of the band came from Axel, who convinced Vaccarino to write a song together. Axel sung to Vaccarino, who accepted the partnership after being impressed by Axel's singing talents.
Until the year 2014, they released one studio album titled "Is There Anybody Out There?". The album was released under the umbrella of Epic Records on the 21st of January 2014.
Their album, along with their hit song from 2013, "Say Something" that features Christina Aguilera propelled them to the world stage of the music industry. The song "Say Something" was released on the 3rd of September 2013. T
he song was received so well by critics and music enthusiasts, that on the 10th of September, the same year, after just one week after it was released, the song was featured on the United States competition "So You Think You Can Dance".
The initial version of the song didn't include Christina Aguilera. The song was subsequently recorded with her after she heard the song. The version that included Aguilera was released on the 4th of November 2013. The second version reached the first position on the iTunes musical chart.
