Whitney Elizabeth Houston is the full name of a New Jersey singer and model, that has also produced or acted in movies.

"Guinness World Records" called her in the year 2009 the female artists with the most awards ever. She is one of the best-selling pop artists ever, selling almost 200 million records internationally throughout her career. Her ten albums consist of six studio albums, three soundtrack albums for films and even a holiday album.

All of these have been certified at least Gold, but several have even reached Diamond status.

Being a great artist on MTV as well and a representative woman for the R&B, pop and soul music, many other African American musicians have been inspired by her. Her first video on MTV has been "How Will I Know" and started a long series of music videos featured on the channel. She has had no less than seven consecutive songs to reach the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 charts. On the year-end charts from the Billboard magazine, she received two album awards on the Billboard 200. Only Elton John has acquired this feat before her and she is the only woman artist to have done so.

In 1985, Houston debuted with the album "Whitney Houston". It has been called the best of 1986 by the Rolling Stone magazine and even made it to the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list. It got rank 254. Album number two for Whitney Houston was called "Whitney" and was released in 1987.

It was the first recording by a female artist to start off at the top of the Billboard 200 charts.

As an actress, she started in 1992 with the movie "The Bodyguard".

She also starred in "Waiting to Exhale" in 1995, as well as one year later, in "The Preacher’s Wife". Her mezzo-soprano voice was placed at number three on the Greatest Voices list by MTV. In the 100 Best Pop Vocalists list, she got placed at rank six by Online Magazine COVE.

Whitney Houston has managed to win a total of 6 Grammy Awards, 2 Emmy Awards, 22 American Music Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards and many, many others.

The total number of her awards is 415. She became part of the New Jersey Hall of Fame in the year 2013. In 2014, she also got inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame.
