Lionel Brockman Richie, Jr., better known simply as Lionel Richie, was born on the 20th of June 1949 in Tuskegee, Alabama, United States. He is an international renowned singer, songwriter, musician, record producer and actor from America. In the beginning of his career, in the early 1968, Lionel Richie was a member in the Commodores musical group. Then, he was signed to Motown Records. Lionel Richie's debut in his solo career was in the year 1982. He released his first album titled Lionel Richie along with the number-one hit titled "Truly".

Lionel Richie is the son of Alberta R. (Foster) and Lionel Brockman Richie. He graduated the Joliet Township High School, East Campus.

Richie's favorite musical genres include soul, R&B, pop, pop rock, soft rock and country. He released a total of eleven albums until now (March 2014). The albums are: Lionel Richie (released in 1982), Can't Slow Down (released in 1983), Dancing on the Ceiling (released in 1986), Back to Front (released in 1992) (Compilation album with three new songs), Louder Than Words (released in 1996), Time (released in 1998), Renaissance (released in 2000), Just for You (released in 2004), Coming Home (released in 2006), Just Go (released in 2009) and Tuskegee (released in 2012). He had a great career as an actor. He starred in nine movies in his career: 1977: Scott Joplin (w/ The Commodores), 1978: Thank God It's Friday (w/ The Commodores), 1990: Running with the Night, 1991: Truth or Dare (documentary), 1996: The Preacher's Wife, 1998: Pariah, 2007: The Simpsons (episode He Loves to Fly and He D'ohs), 2011: Who Do You Think You Are? and 2011: Lionel Richie: Dancing On the Ceiling (Part of the BBC Four documentary series, Black Music Legends of the 1980s).
