About Andrew Lloyd Webber

Andrew Lloyd Webber is an English composer of musical theater music and scores.

Webber was born in Kensington, the exquisite neighborhood of London on 22 March 1948. His father, William Lloyd Webber was a renowned organist and composer, while his mother, Jean Hermione Johnstone, was a wonderful pianist and violinist.

Lloyd Webber is well known as the composer of some of the world’s best-known musicals like Evita, Cats, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Phantom of the Opera and Sunset Boulevard and Jesus Christ Superstar.

His first collaboration with lyricist Tim Rice was "The Likes of Us" which was composed in 1965. "The Likes of Us" was a musical based on the real life events of Thomas John Barnardo's life. A long time has passed until the musical was performed on stage in the open. The performance took place in 2005, after 40 years, at Lloyd Webber's Sydmonton Festival.

Three year later after the musical "The Likes of Us", Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice had started another collaboration in order to write a composition for the Colet Court preparatory school. "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" was the masterpiece which was composed for the school.

Rice and Lloyd Webber collaboration didn’t stop here and in 1969 they composed a piece for "Try It and See", the Eurovision Song Contest. But unfortunately it didn’t have lot of success. Having better inspiration, one year later, its lyrics have been rewritten. Then the composition became "King Herod's Song", which was used in "Jesus Christ Superstar", their third musical.

Their next project together was "Evita". For this one, they got inspired from the life of Eva Perón. The musical was out in 1978 in London and one year later in U.S.

The musical "Cats" from 1981 had become the longest musical ran in London.
