John Legend is the stage name of John Roger Stephens, a singer and songwriter born in Springfield, Ohio, USA.

His date of birth is the 28th of December, year 1978. His main genres are R&B and soul, but he also incorporates the styles of gospel or hip hop soul, as well as neo soul. He is a vocal singer that also knows how to play the keyboards or the piano and also occupied himself with acting.

He has been active as an artist since the year 2000 and has since worked for the labels Columbia, Sony Music and GOOD Music. He has been associated with several other musical acts, the likes of The Roots, Tiziano Ferro, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Rick Ross, Andre 3000.

John Legend is a nine time Grammy winner, also winning an Academy Award and a Golden Globe award. The year 2007 brought over a special distinction for him, namely the Starlight Award, coming from the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He began to become known in the music scene thanks to collaborating with other musicians.

He has worked with Magnetic Man for the song "Getting Nowhere", then on "Selfish" by Slum Village. Also, he got featured on Kanye West’s song "All of the Lights" or "This Way" by Dilated Peoples. Later, he even collaborated with Jay-Z for the song "Encore". In 2003, he was featured by Alicia Keys on the track "You Don’t Know My Name".

Also, he came back to working with Kanye West for a remix of "Me Against the Music" originally by Britney Spears. He even collaborated with Fort Minor for a song called "High Road". For "Everything Is Everything" by Lauryn Hill, he assisted by playing the piano.

John Legend’s greatest solo song has been "All of Me", which got to rank number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

The year 2015 brought over an award for him, for his work on the movie "Selma". He wrote the song "Glory" for the movie and he was awarded with the Best Original Song award at the Academy Award ceremony.

His first album was titled "Get Lifted" and was released in the year 2004.

Two years later, in 2006, he also released "Once Again". After another two years break, he came back in 2008 with "Evolver", his third studio album. The year 2013 brought his most recent album, titled "Love in the Future". In 2010, he collaborated on the album "Wake Up!", alongside The Roots.
