About Lana del Rey

Lana del Rey is the stage name of Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, an United States pop vocalist and guitarist.

Her previous stage name has been "Lizzy Grant" and since then, she had also became a great songwriter. In fact, she occupied herself with writing songs from the young age of eighteen. In 2007, when she was 22, she managed to get signed by 5 Points Records.

Her first album had to wait until 2010, however. Made available digitally, it was named after her and was released in the first month of 2010. In July 2011, she also got signed by three other labels. Those were Stranger Records, Interscope Records and Polydor.

Her cinematic voice and great pop vibe that she brings with her voice made her try on many genres, starting from dream pop, to trip hop, rock or psychedelic rock, to even indie pop or sadcore. Some of her lyrics get inspiration from the 50s and 60s period, when the Americana pop era was growing.

She said that her inspirations in music are the likes of Nirvana, Elvis Presley, Britney Spears, Amy Winehouse, Eminem, Janis Joplin or Bruce Springsteen. She is quite an avid reader of poetry, as she herself stated, so that is a plus for any artist involved in music.

The first month of 2012 brought over Lana del Rey’s album number two, titled "Born to Die". It was very successful in the United States, starting off on the second spot of the US Billboard 200. According to a year-end statistics, the album ranked at number five on an album best-seller list.

Her best song from the album and probably her most known song is "Summertime Sadness", which got remixed by Cedric Gervais. That remix version ranked on a personal record number six on the Billboard Hot 100.

In November 2012, Lana also released an extend play called "Paradise".

A short movie called "Tropico" included three of those songs. The film’s starring actress was Lana herself and the film’s premiere took place in December that year. In June 2014, her album number three went out.

It was called "Ultraviolence" and started off at the number one spot on the US Billboard 200. In 2015, she released another album, titled "Honeymoon".

Lana del Rey has received a series of awards for her musical career. She won a "Best New Thing" award at the Q Award ceremony.

Also, she received the "International Breakthrough Act" BRIT Award, followed by another one, for "International Pop Female Solo Artist". Also a Grammy-nominated artist, she is one of the best voices of the 2010 decade.
