About Alannah Myles

Alannah Myles is a rock, pop and blues singer from Canada, with Irish and English origins.

She started her career at the age of 19, when she entered the TV area as an actress and model for commercials.

Alannah thus earned money to record song demos, yet she struggled to find someone who would provide masterization for her songs in Canada. Starting with "Who Loves You", Myles also released a music video for "Just One Kiss", which was financed by Christopher Ward, who shortly became her boyfriend.

In 1987, Alannah managed to sign with the label Atlantic Records, when she was offered a contract for seven years, due to her three demo songs which seemed promising. The next years, she worked alongside Ward and David Tyson to write and produce an album, which got released in 1989, her "Alannah Myles" album, which became a classic and sold over six million times worldwide. It also received the Diamond Award.

The debut album managed to spawn several hit songs, such as "Still Got This Thing for You", "Love is" and "Lover of Mine", which topped the Canadian charts in 1990. "Black Velvet" was her 1990 single that made her famous, winning the Grammy for Best Female Rock Performance.

CD number two was released in 1992, titled "Rockinghorse", which also spawned "Rockinghorse" as a Grammy nomination, another single from that album, "Song Instead of a Kiss", becoming very successful on international radio, despite remaining moderate in the US. Her third album was "A-lan-nah", released in 1995.

In 1997 Alannah moved from Atlantic Records to another label, titled "Ark 21 Records". Soon after, she hit the market with "A Rival", spawning "Bad 4 You", a ballad that entered the top 40 charts.

In 2009, Myles released album number five, titled "Black Velvet", re-releasing her old title song, the video for "Trouble" being the biggest commercial success from that album. In 2014, she released the album "85 BPM".
