About Marco Borsato

Marco Borsato is the name of a singer and actor born in Alkmaar, Netherlands on the 22nd of December, year 1966.

Being initially an Italian performer, he has been active since the year 1990. His main genres are pop and nederpop and he has been associated with two other musical acts, namely Iris Kroes and O’G3NE. He started singing in Dutch since the year 1994. He has been very successful in the Netherlands, especially commercially.

He was born in the city of Alkmaar, his father being Roberto Borsato and his mother Mary de Graaf. He has two other siblings, a sister called Sylvana and a brother named Armando. They had to move in the country of Italy when their father opened a restaurant there, in Garda. Marco has become a fluent Italian speaker and has spent many years in that country.

At the age of twelve, Marco desired to become a sushi chef, being familiar with the Italian foods and wanted to learn more about cooking. When he grew, Marco spent his Saturdays and Sundays in restaurants, working.

He was conscripted to the cavalry, as a NCO. In the year 1990, he covered the song "At This Moment" by Billy Vera, at the Soundmixshow from Netherlands. The show took place on the sixth of April, year 1990.

Marco Borsato began his professional musical career with a number of 3 albums in Italian. In 1994, when he switched to Dutch, he gained fame, especially due to the song "Dromen Zijn Bedrog", which translates to "Dreams will deceive". Being one of his singles, it reached the top of the charts, remaining at the number one position for 3 months. He soon followed on this success with another song, "Waarom Nou Jij". It was another one of his Dutch singles and another top charting song, becoming number one on the Top 40 in Netherlands.

He has covered many Italian songs by Italian musicians, translating them to Dutch.

He was a great fan and used the songs of Riccardo Fogli, Riccardo Cocciante, Marco Masini, Giorgia, Claudio Baglioni, Zucchero, and others. One of his greatest hits came out in the year 1996, when he covered "Margherita" by Riccardo Cocciante. His career went upwards since this period.

The year 2009 was a bad one for Marco, since The Entertainment Group, his company, became bankrupt.

It was a company occupying itself with event organizing and represented various Dutch musicians and artists. The year 2011 brought him to TV as part of the judge committee of the show "The Voice" from Netherlands.
