About Lorde

Lorde is the stage name of Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor, a singer and songwriter from New Zealand.

The daughter of a poet, she became interested in arts as young as the age of five, when she became part of a drama group. Her mother taught her about reading and influenced her in her development and her lyrical inspiration, that aids her in songwriting, as Ella herself stated.

Starting on a New Zealand radio with a cover of Pixie Lott and "Use Somebody" by Kings of Leon, she and her bandmate also won a talent show. With a cover of Duffy’s "Warwick Avenue" sent to Universal Music Group, as well as their earlier covers, they got signed soon, thus the group called "Ella & Louis" being born.

In 2011 Ella received more singing lessons and she started writing songs as well, starting her solo career after collaborating with Joel Little on a five-piece EP. At the end of 2012, Ella became known as Lorde, releasing on her own an EP titled "The Love Club EP".

The EP has been made available for free and, despite this fact, ranked second on the New Zealand and Australian charts.

Lorde’s single "Royals" made her the youngest star to top the US Billboard Hot 100, also getting her a Silver Scroll Award and two Grammys in 2014, for "Best Pop Solo Performance" and "Song of the Year".

At the end of 2013, Ella released her first album, "Pure Heroine", ranking top in New Zealand and Australia, knowing international success as well, mainly top five.

With successful singles such as "Tennis Court", "Team" and "No Better", this album has made her rise to success and make a name for herself throughout the world.

Since signing a deal with Songs Music Publishing, she headlined festivals in places such as Sydney, Australia, Santiago, Chile, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Sao Paulo, Brazil and at the Coachella Festival in California. After a Northern American tour and an Australian tour, she continued to work on her second album, as well as releasing a single for the movie "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1", a song titled "Yellow Flicker Beat".

With soul influences such as Billie Holiday, Etta James, Sam Cooke and with listening to her family’s favorite artists, such as Fleetwood Mac and Cat Stevens, Ella also admits she admires Thom Yorke and Kendrick Lamar, as well as Lana Del Rey, Radiohead and many others.

A wonderful career with a long career ahead of her, Lorde has begun to make her name known in the pop-rock genre, as well as getting praises from indie fans and critics.

A great voice that can sing almost anything, she is one of the stars to watch for the next years.
