About Richard Clayderman

Richard Clayderman, on his real name Phillipe Pages is a famous French pianist.

He was born on December 28th, 1953. He is mostly known for his collaborations with Olivier Toussaint and Paul de Seneville. He graduated the Conservatoire de Paris, which he entered at only twelve years old.

He became famous here from his early teenage years. He accompanied singers like Michel Sardou, Johnny Hallyday and Thierry Le Luron.

Clayderman's breakthrough came in 1976, when he received a call from Olivier Toussaint, who was asking him to record a piano play, "Balade Pour Adeline". With the song's huge success and sells of more than 20 million copies in dozens of countries, came the artist's decision to change his name from Phillipe Pages to Richard Clayderman in order to avoid any mispronunciation.

Clayderman's work include the recording of over 1300 songs.

His style combines some particular features and classics and pop standards. A dedicated pianist, he offered over 200 performances in less than 250 days. He approaches many musical genres such as instrumental pop, easy listening, semi classical and classical.

He also approached ethnic music and made many rearrangements of classical works or movie soundtracks, such as "Love Story" or "Speak Softly Love". His signature melody is, up to this day, "Balade pour Adeline".

Up to 2006, Richard Clayderman sold more than 150 million records, he has over 70 albums that were certified platinum and another 267 to have been certified gold. He was named "the most successful pianist in the world" by Guinness Book Of World Records. He is very popular in Asia.

Nowadays, the artists lives in Saint Ouen with his family: his children, Peter and Maud, and his wife, Christine.
