About Macklemore

Macklemore, on his real name Ben Haggerty, is an American singer.

The 31 years old rapper was born in Seattle, Washington and raised in Kent.

He started writing lyrics when he was 14 years old and used to listen to Living Legends, Freestyle Fellowship, Wu Tang Clan, Aceyalone and Nas.

Macklemore own a bachelors degree from The Evergreen State College.

His first EP, "Open Your Eyes", was released in 2000, under the stage name Professor Macklemore, which later became Macklemore when he released "The Language Of My World", his first album, in 2005.

He performed on various occasions such as at The Outside Lands Music Festival, at the Sasquatch Music Festival or Bumbershoot.

"The Unplanned Mixtape" was released in 2009 and it included songs like "The Town" and "Irish Celebration".

In 2010, he started working with producer Ryan Lewis for the EP "VS Redux". Next, came successful songs like "Can't Hold Us" and "Wings". he started performing them at Bonnaroo, Rock The Bells, Outside Lands, Bumbershoot, Sasquatch and Lollapalooza.

His breakthrough album, "The Heist", was released in late 2012. It included songs like "Same Love" and "White Walls" as well as previously released works. The album reached number two on the Billboard Hot 200 as it sold nearly 80,000 copies in the first week. Macklemore offered Thrift Shop".

An international hit, it stayed at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks. He embarked on the "The Heist World Tour", to promote the album. he also offered a live performance of "Same Love" at the Grammy Awards, from 2014.

Macklemore's breakthrough single, "Thrift Shop" was number one on the list of "Hottest 100 of 2012", made by Triple J magazine. The artist had seven Grammy Awards nominations, in 2013: for "Best Music Video", "Song Of The Year", "Brand New Artist", "Album of The Year". Also, in 2014, he was nominated for "Best Rap Performance", "Best Rap Album" and "Best Rap Song".

He won two American Music Awards, for "Favorite Rap/ Hip Hop Album" and for "Favorite Rap/ Hip Hop Artist". Also, he earned two AIM Awards, for "Independent Breakthrough Of The Year" and "PPL Award For Most Played New Independent Act". In 2013 he earned a Billboard Award with "Thrift Shop", as well as in 2014 with "Can't Hold Us". He also won four Grammy Awards in 2014 with "Thrift Shop", the album "The Heist" and also for "Best new Artist", with Ryan Lewis.

Having entered the music industry in 2000, Macklemore has approached many musical genres so far, including pop rap, hip hop, hipster hop and alternative hip hop.
