"Oasis" was an English rock band that activated from 1991 until 2009.
It was formed with Liam Gallagher, who was responsible for vocals and tambourine, Paul "Bonehead’ Arthur , for guitar, Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan, for bass and guitar and Tony McCaroll, for drums and percussion. The band origins in Manchester, England and approached many genres such as rock, Britpop and alternative rock.
"Oasis" was initially formed from Paul McGuigan , Paul Arthurs and Chris Hutton. Its original name was "The Rain", but after Gallagher joined the band he suggested they would change it into "Oasis". He was inspired by a tour poster, belonging to "Inspiral Carpets", which listed The Oasis Leisure Centre, in Swindon, Wiltshire. Their first live performance was in 1991, at the Boardwalk club, in Manchester.
Their debut album was named "Definitely Maybe" and was released in 1994, after previously signing with Creation Records. The Gallagher brothers often appeared in tabloids due to their disputes and lifestyle. Their second album was "(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?" and was recorded with their new drummer, Alan White. It was a commercial success with 4 million copies sold and the title of fourth best selling album in UK chart history.
In 1997 Oasis released a third album, "Be Here Now", which was the fastest-selling album in the UK chart history, yet another success. It received a huge amount of media attention and sold over 350 000 copies during its first day. It debuted at number 2 in the Billboard 200 chart. Despite some negative reviews regarding the length of the songs, "Be Here Now" was their most anticipated effort.

After the "Be Here Now Tour", in 1998, the Britpop movement started to decline and the group kept a low profile. They released another four albums between 2000 and 2008: "Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants", "Heathen Chemistry", "Don't Believe The Truth" and "Dig Out Your Soul" . In 2010 they were honored with the Best Brit Album of the Last 30 Years by Brit Awards. It was received only by Liam Gallagher who thanked the rest of the band’s members. On May 14, 2014 their first three albums were remastered and re-released.
"Oasis" was inspired by The Beatles in their musical style, determining British media to call it almost "an obsession". They also cited other influenced: The Stone Roses, The Bee Gees, Sex Pistols, T. Rex, Small Faces, Nirvana, The Rolling Stones, The Stooges, The Door and Jimi Hendrix.
Their work used as an inspiration for many artists, such as: Maroon 5, The Killers, The Enemy, The Coral, Ryan Adams, The Rifles and Coldplay.
