About Wiz Khalifa

Wiz Khalifa, on the real name Cameron Jibril Thomaz, is a famous rapper and songwriter from the United States of America.

He was born on September 8th, 1987 in Minot, North Dakota.

He lived in Germany, Japan and Great Britain before establishing in the United States. His stage name comes from the Arabian word "Khalifa", meaning "successor", while Wiz is a diminutive with which he was called throughout his childhood. Important artists who inspired him include The Notorious B.I.G, Jimi Hendrix, Camp Lo and Bone Thugs n Harmony.

Khalifa has been active in the music industry since 2005, when he released "Prince Of The City:  Welcome To Pistolvania", the first mix-tape. This was the mean to assure the release of his debut album "Show And Prove", the following year.

Also in 2006, he was named "an artist to watch" by Rolling Stone magazine.

Shortly after, Khalifa signed a recording contract with Warner Bros Records. This led the release of another two mix-tapes, "Grow Season", in July 2007 and "Prince Of The City 2", in November, the same year. The first single to be released was "Say Yeah", and it was number 25 on the Rhythmic Top 40 chart and number 40 on the Hot Rap Tracks chart.

The following releases from Khalifa included "Teach You To Fly", a single, and "How Fly", a mix-tape.

He also collaborated with different singers on the songs "Diva", "Walking On A Dream", "If I Were A Boy", "Best I Ever Had" and "Luchini AKA This Is It".

The singer's breakthrough came with "Black And Yellow", which was released through Atlantic Records. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 and the title is a reference to City Of Pittsburgh's colors.

He launched a record label, "Taylor Gang Records", named after Taylor Allderdice High School. Khalifa's debut studio album was "Rolling Papers", in 2011 and it sold almost 200,000 on its first week.

The second album, released the next year, was "Only Ni**a In First Class", and it contained important hits like "Remember You" and "Work Hard, Play Hard". The latest album from Wiz Khalifa is "Blacc Hollywood".

In 2012, he received a Billboard Award for "Top New Artist" and received two Grammy nominations: for "Best Rap Song" and "Best Rap Performance".

The young singer already provided important hits in only a few years and promises a prolific career in the long future.
