About Nicola Piovani
Nicola Piovani is a light-classical music artist, also having worked as a theater and film score composer.
He began learning the piano at the age of only 9 and ultimately succeeded in gaining his diploma in 1967 at the Verdi Conservatory in Milan, when he was only 21.
His musical preferences have varied even since his early years, being of an eclectic nature. Being inspired by the music he loved, such as works from Britten, Duke Ellington, Bernstein or Piazzola, he met the actor-singer-songwriter Duilio Del Prete, with whom he worked and won a critic's prize for the arrangement of his album.
Later he met Fabrizio De André, collaborating and writing for two of Nicola’s best albums in his career, "Non all'amore non al denaro né al cielo" and "Storie d'un impiegato".
Returning to Rome in the 1968 period, he experimented with various musical genres and forms, he played in alternative clubs and accompanied singers. New horizons opened up when he met the great Greek composer Hadjidakis, who helped him perfect his orchestration skills.
His musical interests soon took a turn towards cinema, with Silvano Agosti's "Il segreto" and Bellocchio's "In the Name of the Father", immediately making a name for himself as an original composer on a par with Rota, Morricone and Carpi.
