About James Newton Howard

James Newton Howard is the name of a Californian music composer and conductor, and also a producer.

He has been born on the ninth of June, year 1951 in Los Angeles, California. His career consisted mostly of music scores, doing so for over 100 projects. He has managed to win one Emmy Award, one Grammy Award has been nominated a total of eight times for an Academy Award.

Among the most famous works by James Newton Howard we can remember the 1990 movie "Pretty Woman", followed one year later by "The Prince of Tides". The year 1993 he worked on the score for "The Fugitive", followed six years later by "The Sixth Sense". In 2002 he worked on "Treasure Planet" and in 2004 on "The Village".

One year later he scored two movies, namely "Batman Begins" and "King Kong". In 2006 he provided music for "Blood Diamond", followed by Will Smith’s "I Am Legend" in 2007. He returned to the Batman series in 2008 with "The Dark Knight" and, in 2012, he scored "The Hunger Games" and "The Bourne Legacy".

The year 2013 he came back to the 2012 series, providing scores for "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire", as well as for "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1".

James Newton Howard has worked closely with M. Night Shyamalan, who directed nine movies, starting with "The Sixth Sense". His work is mostly fast-paced, providing scores for certain movies in just under a month. An example of that are the movies "The Hunger Games", as well as "King Kong".

His work started in the year 1982 with "Toto IV", where he conducted and orchestrated three songs, titled "Lovers in the Night", "Afraid of Love" and "I Won’t Hold You Back".

One year later, he recorded "James Newton Howard and Friends", featuring keyboard players Steve Porcaro and David Paich, as well as drummer Jeff Porcaro and percussion player Joe Porcaro. In 1985, he debuted in the movie industry with the score for "Head Office". One year later, he already received several project, scoring "8 Million Ways to Die", "Nobody’s Fool", "Wildcats" and "Tough Guys".

The year 1987 brought over two more projects for him, namely "Russkies" and "Five Corners".

In 1988, he scored 5 more movies, "Promised Land", "Some Girls", "Everybody’s All-American", "Off Limits" and "Go Toward the Light". In 1989, he worked for 4 more projects: "Tap", "Major League", "Men" and "The Package". Since 1990, he has also worked on "Pretty Woman", "Dying Young", "Night and the City", "Dave", "French Kiss", "The Sentinel" and many others.
