"Let It Be" is a song by The Beatles from the album with the same name.
It was recorded in the Apple Studio since January 31, 1969 and in EMI Studios in the 30 April - 4 January 1970 period. It was released as a 7 inch vinyl record on the sixth of March, 1970, being a single from the album.
An alternate mix was featured on the album. It has been the last single that also included McCartney, who left the band afterwards.
Being a rock and pop song with gospel influences, "Let It Be" has been written by McCartney, who was also the lead singer for the song. The writing team was credited as the Lennon-McCartney and the song was produced by George Martin. The alternate mix features a different guitar instrumental, as well as orchestral changes.
It debuted at a record place at that time, the sixth place on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
It is a fan favorite, even voted at the top of a list of songs by The Beatles. Among other great songs such as "A Day in the Life" and "Strawberry Fields Forever", this single is a top-three for the fans and the critics. In the year 1987, it was renewed by the group Ferry Aid, featuring McCartney. That version topped the UK Singles Charts and also made it to top ten in other territories.
A mix version of the single was used on the album filled with compilations, one called "1967-1970". The same rendition was also used on the albums "1", "Past Masters Volume 2" and "20 Greatest Hits". An unreleased version was created by Glyn Johns in 1969, then in January 1970 in order to remake it into an LP version. It remained unreleased as well.
"Let It Be" by The Beatles is one of the best songs ever, placed at number 20 on a Rolling Stone’s list from 2004. A great ballad from the British group, it managed to win the Original Song Score award at the 1971 edition of the Academy Awards. Another Grammy Award followed, for "Best Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or a Television Special".
These awards were made possible due to the documentary movie with the same name as the song.
"Let It Be" was covered by a number of artists, from which we can remember Joe Cocker, Aretha Franklin, Clarence Carter, John Denver, Bill Withers, Ray Charles.
It was a number one single in Australia, Austria, Hungary, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, as well as in the US.
